Beeline: Fast, Stable Metro Internet in Moscow
Beeline informs about a significant expansion of network coverage in the Moscow metro. Now fast and stable mobile Internet, as well as stable voice communication, are available on the busiest Moscow metro lines – Koltsevaya, Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya, Zamoskvoretskaya and Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya. According to the metro, the passenger traffic of these 4 lines is 52% of the total metro traffic per month.
At the moment, 4G is available at all stations, tunnels and crossings of the Ring and Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya lines. And also practically along the entire route of passengers along the Zamoskvoretskaya and Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya lines, with the exception of several tunnels, where the work will be completed by the end of October 2020. On a daily basis, the network is monitored and optimized to improve the quality of communication and the availability of services. It is planned to provide 100% network coverage by the end of November 2020.
Thanks to the modernization of the network, the average speed of Beeline mobile Internet in the metro has already increased significantly, and now Beeline customers can continuously and in good quality access their favorite services from their smartphones throughout their journey along these lines.
According to Beeline Analytics, most of Beeline’s clients use messengers and social networks when traveling on the metro. Among the entertainment services, video hosting is the most popular; almost 50% of passengers like to watch videos while traveling. Among them, the largest share falls on men aged 30-35 years. But music services are more in demand among women; almost 60% regularly listen to music on the road. Most music lovers are among girls from 18 to 25 years old.
At the end of September 2020, Beeline customers used 4.5 times more mobile Internet on these branches than a year ago. The largest growth was in the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line, where mobile traffic increased more than 10 times. Focusing on the client’s needs for high-quality mobile communications, Beeline installed 513 new base stations in the metro and has already modernized almost 100 km of its own radiating cable in the tunnels, which will ensure the availability of service with increasing network loads.
Dmitry Mashin, Director of the Moscow Region: “Network development in the Moscow metro is a priority project within the framework of a large-scale program to improve the quality of communication in Moscow. Beeline customers can appreciate the new level of service at 126 out of 218 underground stations. And at the end of November 2020, we plan to provide 100% coverage of the network throughout the metro. Our goal is to provide continuous and quick access to all the necessary mobile services while moving customers around the city throughout the day. Therefore, we are equally working to improve the coverage of the mobile network both inside the metro and outside: in residential complexes, cottage settlements, on highways and railway junctions, in shopping and business centers, as well as other socially significant objects in the city. “
