Travelers are billed unexpected data roaming fees of £262 every vacation; here’s how to prevent it

Despite the fact that the summer vacation is already underway, Britons are limiting their travel in an effort to save money and avoid exorbitant roaming fees as a result of the UK’s cost-of-living crisis. A third of individuals aren’t planning a trip overseas this year, and almost half (45%) are reducing their spending as a result of the cost-of-living crisis, according to new research from iD Mobile, the mobile virtual network operator from Currys. unexpected data roaming

For the 60% of Brits going abroad this year, 90% of them will be packing their mobile phone – which is currently seen as one of the most important items to bring when traveling. Despite the requirement of having a mobile phone, just 50% of Britons are ready to use it freely overseas (49%) and 51% do not have a roaming option or bundle included in their mobile phone plan while traveling.

Unexpectedly, 71% of consumers claim that they wouldn’t even anticipate having to pay roaming fees while traveling. Despite the fact that a third (27%) of adults claim to have incurred roaming fees that were unanticipated and cost an eye-popping £262 on average when they returned from their vacation.

With mobile operators like Three, Vodafone, EE, and Sky now charging for roaming, it is understandable why tourists are being taken advantage of. With adults under 44 spending an average of eight hours a day on their phone while on vacation, whether it be taking photos and videos, contacting family and friends back home, researching local activities and attractions, using maps and navigation, or finding good restaurants or bars, it’s also simple to understand why Brits are experiencing roaming-related “bill shocks.”

Data roaming is is when a mobile phone is used outside of its home network, so overseas, and connects to another available cell network. Before the UK left the EU, Britons could use their monthly allowances of calls, data and texts while in 28 destinations in the EU for no extra charge.

Now the UK is no longer part of the EU some mobile providers have reintroduced roaming charges, while others are allowing customers to still roam for free. With this in mind, we have compiled a list of the providers who have not reintroduced EU roaming charges, therefore offering free data roaming for their customers. unexpected data roaming
