Washington Metro offers free bike rides for switching to mobile SmarTrip card

Metro and Capital Bikeshare are pleased to offer free bike rides to eligible Metro customers on the regional bikeshare system. Create a mobile SmarTrip® card through the end of the promotional period and you can earn ten free 45-minute classic bike rides on any one of Capital Bikeshare’s 5,000+ bikes across 650 docking stations in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.  mobile SmarTrip card

Capital Bikeshare (operated by Lyft Bikes and Scooters, LLC.) is metro DC’s public bikeshare system, with more than 5,000 bikes available at 650 stations across seven jurisdictions: Washington, DC; Arlington, VA; Alexandria, VA; Montgomery County, MD; Prince George’s County, MD; Fairfax County, VA; and the City of Falls Church, VA. Capital Bikeshare provides residents and visitors with a convenient, fun and affordable transportation option for getting from Point A to Point B.

Existing mobile SmarTrip® users can also get in on the deal. The rides are available for 30 days after signing up, and you can redeem your free bike ride 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

After you have signed up for the promotional offer, and upon confirmation of your eligibility, Metro will securely share the phone number you provided with Lyft Bikes and Scooters, LLC. (“Lyft”) to issue the promotional credit for ten free 45-minute classic bike rides to the Capital Bikeshare or Lyft account linked to the phone number you provided, to be used within 30 days after receipt of communication from Capital Bikeshare regarding offer activation.

The promotional offer only applies to 45-minute classic Capital Bikeshare rides; overage, e-bikes, taxes, and out of hub fees will be charged separately.

The promotional offer does not provide additional benefits to Capital Bikeshare users with annual membership.

WMATA launched the offer last year but has now extended it for a further six months until the end of June 2022.

The transit authority let passengers add SmarTrip cards to Apple Wallet in September 2020 and to Google Pay in June 2021.
