Xiaomi is No.3 in UK and Grabs 6% Phone Share in Germany
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Corp grabbed market share in China and Europe in the September quarter as rival Huawei Technologies’ dominance slipped due to U.S. sanctions, market data showed.

6.2 million handsets were shipped in Germany in Q3 2020, dropping by -3% YoY during the quarter. Apple captured the leading positions across all major carriers in Germany ahead of Samsung. Huawei maintained no. 3 position, but kept losing the ground.
Xiaomi jumped to a record 6% share of Germany’s mobile handset market in the third quarter of 2020. It is now an established top-five player in the region. Affordable Android models and a strong social-media voice are making Xiaomi hugely popular among Europeans.
In China, Xiaomi was the only brand that recorded growth, according to Counterpoint, with sales up 8% year-on-year. The overall Chinese smartphone market continued to shrink, with shipments falling 14%.
“Xiaomi executed with aggression to seize shipments from Huawei,” Canalys analyst Mo Jia said in a note on Friday. In Europe, Huawei’s shipments slumped by a quarter while Xiaomi’s jumped 88%, he said.
“Xiaomi took a risk setting high production targets, but this move paid off when it was able to fill channels in Q3 with high-volume devices, such as the Redmi 9 series.”
