AT&T Users Can Now Make and Receive Calls on Alexa Devices
Amazon Echo devices already have an Alexa feature that lets you call mobile and landline numbers, but now you can receive calls—if you have an AT&T phone number.
The calling doesn’t have to be Alexa-to-Alexa; it makes the Echo more like a regular AT&T phone. When you link your AT&T account to your Alexa devices, you can dial numbers and call people saved in your contacts through voice alone.
AT&T calling with AIexa
To get started, link your existing AT&T mobile number to your Alexa account with the following steps:
1. In the Alexa app, go to Settings.
2. Select Communication.
3. Select AT&T and follow the on-screen instructions to link your mobile number.
Once your AT&T mobile number is linked, you can call contacts by name or dial numbers hands-free. Just say, “Alexa, call Jessica” or “Alexa, dial XXX-XXX-XXXX” to place a call.
When receiving a call on your device, Alexa will tell you who is calling by saying, “Incoming call from James.” To start your conversation, just say “Alexa, answer.” If you’re away from home, you can stop incoming calls to your Alexa device by enabling Away Mode in the Alexa app. You can also control when you receive incoming calls by creating Routines in the Alexa app. For example, you can specify when you’d like to receive AT&T calls on your Alexa device (e.g. between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day) or set a routine to disable AT&T calls on your Alexa device when you say, “Alexa, I’m leaving home.”
Amazon first introduced this mobile-linkage feature overseas, with Vodafone OneNumber customers in the UK and Germany and EE customers in the UK. The Amazon-AT&T partnership rolled out on Wednesday in the US.
