MTS launches AI service to filter out spam SMS
MTS has launched the Smart SMS Filter feature for users of the Membrana app. The solution is available to subscribers from Moscow and the Moscow region, but in the near future, all subscribers of the company will be able to connect to the tariff. This was reported by MTS.
The Smart SMS Filter independently recognizes intrusive advertising through semantic analysis of the text using AI, as well as analysis of the sender’s address. The solution blocks advertising and only delivers important SMS messages from companies and government agencies to the subscriber. However, messages that are sent from regular numbers, including foreign ones, are not filtered.
Access to the Membrana application
Membrana is a new application from MTS that combines privacy management services. It was created specifically for you to customize your online environment.
- Block threats, track algorithms, and advertise with the Clean Internet service.
- “Leak Monitoring” monitors your publicly available phone number and email address. In the event of a data leak, it advises you on how to solve the problem and protect yourself in the future.
- “Additional numbers” mask your main phone. Use them for registration on websites, in applications, and in loyalty programs.
- With the help of the Incoming Call Management and AI Secretary services, you will control calls and decide whether to accept the call or forward it to the AI Secretary and then read the transcript.

The training of the ML model underlying the Smart SMS Filter function took several months and required marking up and rechecking 18,000 messages from the SMS training database.
