Vodafone Teams Up with Adyen and Tink to Launch ‘Pay by Bank’ in Germany
Vodafone Germany has partnered with fintech leaders Adyen and Tink to roll out “Pay by Bank” in Germany—an open banking solution that lets customers pay directly from their bank accounts. This move marks a major step in streamlining mobile payments and enhancing digital convenience for Vodafone’s users.
This collaboration aims to enhance payment experiences by enabling direct, secure, and real-time bank transfers for both prepaid and postpaid mobile services.
Streamlining Payments with Open Banking
“Pay by Bank” leverages open banking technology to allow customers to make payments directly from their bank accounts, eliminating the need for traditional card-based transactions. This method offers a seamless and efficient alternative, aligning with the growing demand for user-friendly digital payment solutions.
Michael Reinartz, Director of Innovation at Vodafone, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating,
“We’re pleased to work with two leading fintechs in Tink and Adyen to offer this new payment method for some of our customers in Germany. The simplicity and security of Pay by Bank provides a great option.”
Collaborative Efforts for Enhanced User Experience
The implementation of “Pay by Bank” is the result of a longstanding collaboration between Tink and Adyen. Tink provides the open banking infrastructure, facilitating secure connections with banks, while Adyen offers end-to-end payment processing capabilities, including checkout, acquiring, and risk management.
Thomas Gmelch, Head of Commercial Central Europe at Tink, highlighted the partnership’s potential:
“Ever since our first discussions with Vodafone at an event in Düsseldorf, we’ve been excited about the potential of this partnership. We look forward to building on this opportunity alongside our long-standing partner Adyen.”
Hella Fuhrmann, Country Manager DACH at Adyen, added, “We are delighted to introduce Pay by Bank for Vodafone customers thanks to our partnership with Tink. This integration reflects the growing demand for seamless, bank-direct payments. It helps businesses optimise their checkout experience and drive higher conversion rates.”
Advancing Open Banking Adoption
This initiative signifies a significant step in the adoption of open banking solutions within the telecommunications sector. By offering “Pay by Bank,” Vodafone not only enhances customer convenience but also positions itself at the forefront of digital payment innovation.
As open banking continues to gain traction across Europe, partnerships like this exemplify the potential for fintech collaborations to transform traditional payment systems, offering consumers more secure and efficient ways to manage their finances.
