Vodafone Germany provides 4 million Wi-Fi hotspots
The majority of these are so-called home spots, meaning Wi-Fi access is provided by shared access to Vodafone customers’ home routers. Customers with a cable internet tariff can activate the Homespot service and then use the WLAN offer at Vodafone Homespots at no additional cost.
“With the latest mobile technology and also with fast cable fiber optic connections, our customers can always stay connected nationwide. The merger of the two previously separate WLAN networks shows once again how much Germany as a digital location benefits from the merger of Vodafone and Unitymedia, ”says Andreas Laukenmann, Managing Director of Private Customers at Vodafone.
Free use for participating cable customers germany wi-fi
If you have a cable connection in connection with an Internet tariff and activate the Homespot service, you can use the nationwide WLAN offer on the go at all other Vodafone Homespots without additional costs. To do this, the customer must set his access data once in the respective customer center. Anyone who is logged into the WLAN once with a smartphone, tablet or notebook will be automatically connected to any Vodafone Home Spot within range. Access is also possible at the public Vodafone hotspots – around 6,000 WiFi accesses on streets and squares, as well as in hotels, cafes and restaurants.
For non-participating cable customers, Vodafone DSL customers and everyone else from home and abroad, there are many options with hourly, daily, weekly and monthly tickets to benefit from the fun of surfing via WLAN . You can do this easily by credit card or PayPal. The tickets are then valid for all 4 million Vodafone WiFi hotspots in the selected period – with no volume limit for the device with which they were purchased. In addition, there is the option of booking a WiFi hotspot flat, which enables three additional logins for other family members or simultaneous surfing with multiple devices. However, this offer is not yet available in the former Unitymedia network in North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and Baden-Württemberg.
This is how the home spots work
The cable routers that Vodafone leaves to its customers provide two wireless networks at the same time. In addition to the customer’s private WiFi network, a second WiFi identifier Hotspot appears with the name ‘Vodafone Hotspot’. Technically, both networks are completely independent of each other. The public part runs separately from the private network and its use has no influence on the surfing speed of the customer. Every customer always has the option of temporarily or completely deactivating the Vodafone Homespot on the device they are using in the customer center. As a subscriber to the Homespot service, you are connected via the ‘Vodafone Hotspot’ WLAN ID. The WiFi identifier ‘Vodafone Free WiFi’ is broadcast on public hotspots and can be used by anyone for at least 30 minutes per calendar day free of charge.
