Vodafone Germany has announced that it has signed a partnership agreement with the French oil and gas company Total to equip its petrol stations with 5G.

The firm has started to operate the first Total petrol stations with 5G in Dusseldorf and in Erfurt.
Mobile pay via e-wallet, digital signage  and  fast  WLAN  for  customers: gas stations are becoming increasingly  digital. Traditional DSL lines are increasingly encountering their limits.
Vodafone and TOTAL Deutschland therefore launch the new mobile technology 5G at gas stations for the first time. Together, the partners have brought the first gas station to the 5G network at the TOTAL station at Düsseldorf’s Forestry Road.
At the same time, the TOTAL station in the Arnstaedter Strasse in Erfurt is also being switched to 5G. All digital services as well as cassette terminals transfer the data here reliably in the 5G network with bandwidths of up to 500 megabits per second—and thus about ten times faster than with a conventional DSL connection.

“We ended the year 2019 with the first 5G innovations in Germany, and we will continue in 2020 with new 5G innovations. Those who rely on future-oriented technologies today will be one step ahead of the competition tomorrow, ”said Vodafone Germany CEO Hannes Ametsreiter. “5G not only leads to competitive advantages in huge industrial halls, The new cellular technology is also needed where we don’t immediately suspect it—even when refueling. ”

Advantages for each individual customer
At TOTAL we place great value on modern petrol stations; we want to be close to the customer and his needs. Thanks to more powerful bandwidths, digital services can be carried out quickly and without interference. Vodafone Germany 5G thus brings advantages for every single customer, ”explains Thomas Strauß, petrol station director at TOTAL Germany.
