Visa Survey Finds Contactless Payments Are Key to Driving Public Transportation Use

The way we move around cities is changing. New technologies are making it possible to get around more quickly, easily, and sustainably. In a recent survey, Visa found that 70% of people believe that new technologies will have a positive impact on urban mobility. contactless payments and public transportation

More than nine in ten public transport users worldwide expect to be able to make contactless fare payments when travelling on public transport (94%) and more than four in ten identify the ability to make contactless fare payments as a key factor in encouraging their use of public transportation (41%).

Nearly two-thirds of respondents expect to make a contactless fare payment with their own bank card or a prepaid transit card in the next year (65%) and almost one-half would use public transport more often if contactless fare payments were capped (47%).

One of the most promising new technologies is autonomous vehicles. Autonomous vehicles have the potential to revolutionize urban transportation. They could make it safer and easier to get around, and they could reduce traffic congestion. However, there are still some challenges that need to be addressed before autonomous vehicles can be widely adopted.

New promising technologies

Another promising new technology is electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are more efficient and environmentally friendly than gasoline-powered vehicles. They are also becoming more affordable, and many cities are offering incentives to encourage people to switch to electric vehicles.

In addition to new technologies, there are also a number of policy changes that could be made to improve urban mobility. For example, cities could invest in public transportation, make it easier to walk and bike, and create more mixed-use development. These changes would make it easier for people to get around without a car.

The future of urban mobility is exciting. New technologies and policy changes have the potential to make our cities more livable and sustainable.
