Ubiik Announces First iSIM-enabled 5G LPWA Edge Router

Ubiik, a leading provider of private 4G/5G solutions, is proud to announce that it has successfully enabled Satellite NTN IoT service on its Pyxis 5G LPWA Edge Router via the device’s iSIM (integrated SIM). This latest development provides flexibility for the end user to failover from a private or public network to Satellite NTN without the need for a physical SIM or even eSIM.

“Pyxis 5G LPWA demonstrates our continued focus on integrating the latest relevant technologies to deliver the best value, security and ease-of-use to our customers”, said Fabien Petitgrand, Ubiik’s CTO. “It leverages the secure 3GPP-compliant iSIM, directly built into the secure element of the chipset for the highest level of security, together with Release 17 5G LPWA (Cat-M1, Cat-NB2) for the most ubiquitous coverage ever”.

Pyxis 5G LPWA has the unique ability to connect to private networks, including on the license-free 902-928MHz—together with FCC-certified freeRAN™ Base Station – or the upcoming Release 19 Band 111, as well as public networks across North America and even NTN on B255/256, all with a single-profile Monogoto SIM. With its dual-SIM support (iSIM + physical SIM), it is the most future-proof 5G LPWA edge router on the market.

To bring the Pyxis 5G LPWA to market, the Ubiik team has partnered with Kigen, a world leader in secure iSIM technology, and Monogoto, whose MVNO service is enabled inside the iSIM. Hailed as the next generation of SIM technology, the use of an iSIM is revolutionary for IoT connectivity due to the reduction in size, power consumption, and cost.

“Ubiik’s Pyxis 5G LPWA edge router demonstrates how Kigen’s iSIM delivers robust security and reliable connectivity at the edge of mission-critical utility networks—where resilience is critical,” said Vincent Korstanje, CEO of Kigen. “As the first commercially available iSIM-enabled solution for satellite NTN with seamless terrestrial failover, it sets a new standard for secure, always-on smart utility infrastructure.”

The addition of Monogoto‘s MVNO service allows the user to choose to failover to a public or NTN network of their choice. A range of affordable “Pay As You Go” plans are available to suit individual use cases, or it can be used exclusively as a private network at no cost.

“We are very excited to see software-defined connectivity becoming a reality. The virtualization of SIM into the hardware of Ubiik’s Pyxis 5G LPWA router is a perfect example of how friction is being removed, enabling enterprises to integrate connectivity in a much more seamless and efficient way,” said Maor Efrati, CTO and Co-founder of Monogoto. “By embedding our MVNO service inside the iSIM, businesses gain unparalleled ability to scale their IoT deployments with the reliability of public networks, the flexibility of private networks and the extended reach of Satellite NTN.”

Transforming IoT Use Cases

Pyxis 5G LPWA supports both Cat-M1 and Cat-NB1/2 (aka LTE-M and NB-IOT), the only 3GPP technologies to fulfill 5G mMTC (massive machine-type communication) requirements, and which provide a path forward to be connected directly to a 5G SA Core. They are also the only technologies that have Satellite NTN support from Release 17 onward. Contrary to Cat-1bis and other legacy LTE categories, these provide the most future-proof and versatile connectivity options for a wide range of moderate throughput, and long-range, reliable communication.

Combined with freeRAN 5G LPWA Base Station, Pyxis 5G LPWA can be used to deploy a private Cat-M1 network in the license-free 902-928MHz. With 3MHz of license-free spectrum for downlink and 12MHz for uplink, it can support a wide range of applications, from connecting sensors or smart meters to surveillance cameras (Cat-M1 throughput of >200kbps per Pyxis and >3Mbps per freeRAN enables at least 8 concurrent HD 10fps H265 video streams).
