Three UK is enhancing its commitment to customer security with the launch of Three Device Security, a powerful new solution designed to safeguard users against online threats. Powered by Bitdefender, a global leader in cybersecurity, the service provides an extra layer of protection to help keep consumers safe from fraud and cyber risks. From 21 March, Three Device Security will be available to install on Android and iOS. The new online security will be available as a subscription for its customers for just £1 per month.

The app will safeguard consumers while browsing or using apps that connect to the internet. It will also offer customer insights into their existing security credentials and provide core account privacy features.

The technology works by constantly scanning online sites and alerting customers if they have been involved in any data breaches. It can also be linked to the Calendar and Message functions to provide enhanced protection against the threat of fraud, phishing attacks, malware, and other cyber risks.

The subscription starts with a one-month free trial and is available to new and existing customers for the same monthly price.

Bitdefender features provided include:

1. Web Protection: Scans webpages and warns users when they come across fraudulent pages, filters web traffic; and offers real-time protection against online dangers.
2. Account Privacy: Allows users to check if their online accounts have been involved in any data breaches. Account Privacy notifies the user when sensitive data is at risk and suggests actions to remediate the problem.
3. Scam Alert: Protects users against the rising tide of mobile attacks through malicious links received via Email, SMS, messaging apps, by analysing the received notifications to prevent infections and scam attempts.
4. Malware Scanner (Android only): Scans Android phones or tablets to make sure all apps are clear. Provides users with an extra layer of security to protect against potential malicious apps as soon as they exhibit abnormal behavior.
5. App Lock (Android only): Protects sensitive apps so no one can interfere with the settings or private info. It adds an extra layer of protection by giving users the possibility to lock apps with a PIN code.
6. Device Scan (iOS only): Protects the phone and its data by detecting security misconfigurations and helps users remediate them.

As attacks grow, Three UK successfully blocked over 40.89m scam texts in 2024 as part of its efforts to protect customers. The company also shares regular messages and alerts with its customers to warn them about the latest scams and provide advice on prevention and protection.

In November 2024, Three joined Which? in a coalition representing some of the UK’s biggest banks and telecom providers to make a landmark commitment to urge the new government to make fraud a national priority.

CKH Innovations Opportunities Development (CKH IOD), the international development hub of CK Hutchison Group Telecom (CKHGT), extended its partnership with Bitdefender to Three UK. This follows the successful rollout of the app with Three UK’s sister company, WindTre, in Italy, in May 2022.
