Telefonica Spain increases 5G coverage to 150 coastal resorts
Telefónica has expanded and strengthened 5G coverage in nearly 150 coastal towns, where there will foreseeably be a greater concentration of people this summer so that they will have high-performance mobile connectivity with the new technology.
The beach areas where the operator has made a greater deployment of 5G are in the autonomous communities of Catalonia, with 37 populations; Andalusia, with 24, and the Valencian Community, with 24. This wide array also includes the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands.
Regarding the population range, Telefónica offers 5G coverage both in small towns with less than 1,000 inhabitants, such as El Port de la Selva (Gerona), as well as in much larger towns with about 100,000 inhabitants, such as El Ejido or Roquetas de Mar.
By autonomous communities, the smallest and largest towns with beaches with Movistar’s 5G coverage are:

In this way, Telefónica continues to advance in the deployment of its 5G coverage, which already reaches more than 80% of the population with the installation of nodes that cover more than 37 million inhabitants and 1,300 municipalities throughout Spain. Throughout this year 2021, Telefónica will continue to expand and strengthen coverage to cover the maximum population. In this sense, the operator, a leader in Europe in fiber, considers the combination of fiber with 5G essential to offering the best connectivity to users.
The operator works several months before the arrival of the summer dates to strengthen the capacity of the telephone base stations during the summer. This year, parameters have also been applied that have taken into account a possible modification of traffic due to the new circumstances generated by COVID-19. Likewise, a special parameterization has been applied to all the locations related to the highest accumulations of tourists.
