Tele2 Latvia introduces 5G roaming in 11 countries
Last summer, Tele2 became the first mobile operator in Latvia to offer 5G roaming services. This was the case for Tele2’s customers in Sweden. The number of these countries has now increased significantly thanks to cooperation with mobile operators in other countries.
“Although 5G technology is not yet commonplace in people’s daily lives, we are moving step by step to ensure that those customers who have this desire and ability can use the 5G mobile network more often and in a more targeted manner. This applies to the use of 5G technologies both in Latvia and abroad, ”says Līga Krūmiņa, Technical Director of Tele2.
According to the representatives of Tele2, the 700 MHz frequency, which could be fully available to mobile operators in the middle of 2022, will allow providing much wider 5G coverage in Latvia. The greatest value of the 700 MHz frequency is the ability to transmit the signal over a much wider area, as well as to better reach devices located indoors. Tele2 Latvia 5G roaming
The data of the mobile operator “Tele2” show that the flow of population from Pieriga to the center of Riga is starting to return. Due to the pandemic, in the spring and beginning of last year the population flow from Riga’s districts and nearest cities to the center of the capital had decreased by about 50%, but now – in the last two months – movement to the center of Riga has increased by 15% compared to the beginning of this year .
According to Tele2, this may be explained by the increase in the rate of vaccination against Covid-19 and the fact that several companies have fully or partially resumed operations.
“With the onset of the pandemic and the introduction of various restrictions, there was a marked decrease in the flow of people to the center of Riga. At the moment, looking at the load data of our mobile base stations, we can see that gradually people are starting to return to the habits that were observed, for example, last summer, when the incidence of Covid-19 decreased and the Latvian population moved more actively, “says ” Tele2 ”Chairman of the Board Valdis Vancovičs. “The resumption of shops and cafes is also gaining ground, and people are happy to take the opportunity to visit public places that were previously barred.”
