Tap to Pay on iPhone goes live for US retailers
Retailers in the USA, such as the clothing stores Vince, Burton, G-Star, and Scotch & Soda, have started letting their employees use the Tap to Pay software point of sale (sPOS) capability on iPhones to accept contactless payments in-store. Tap to Pay iPhone
Tap to Pay on iPhone will also be made available directly to retailers and platforms including Nike, Lightspeed Commerce Inc, and Fresha.
Adyen’s payment infrastructure, which the retailers are utilizing to execute the sPOS, has now officially introduced support for Apple’s Tap to Pay after undergoing beta testing.
“This new capability will change how consumers and businesses view mobile payments,” Adyen’s Kamran Zaki says. “Tap to Pay on iPhone is easy to use and leverages the built-in security features of iPhone to keep your business and your customer data private and secure. We are proud to officially be live, enabling businesses to give customers more choice and flexibility.”
Tap to Pay on iPhone will enable Adyen’s customers to stay at the forefront of innovation by:
- Simplifying in-person payments by removing the dependence on payment hardware to accept transactions, providing a complementary way to accept payments for line-busting.
- Getting up and running quickly with installation and onboarding, allowing businesses to scale up their payment operation.
- Providing safe and fast checkout experiences that increases mobility on location.
- Allowing for a convenient and secure way to pay for customers since transactions are encrypted and payment data is protected by the same technology that makes Apple Pay private and secure.
“We are thrilled that Scotch & Soda is one of the groundbreakers to launch Tap to Pay on iPhone,” said Karis Durmer, CEO of the Americas for Scotch & Soda. “As consumers increase their use of digital wallets, Tap to Pay provides a secure and contactless payment option which ensures our customers will have a seamless checkout experience.”
“We’re excited to expand upon our partnership with NewStore and Adyen to become one of the first retailers in their network to bring Tap to Pay on iPhone to our retail store locations,” said Jack Schwefel, Chief Executive Officer, Vince. “Our customers expect an elevated in-store experience and we are confident that the ease and convenience of this new payment option will resonate with both current and new Vince shoppers.”
“NewStore and Adyen are always on top of the emerging trends that allow us to provide the best shopping experience possible, and bringing Tap to Pay on iPhone to our stores this quickly and easily is a great example of that,” added Brian McAllister, Director of Global Operations, Consumer Direct, Burton. “The biggest advantage of this feature is it eliminates our dependence on traditional payment terminals, which means we can now offer an even more seamless and secure way to accept payments.”
Adyen is now encouraging retailers outside of the USA to register their interest in adding support for the sPOS capability, even though it is presently only available to US retailers who use the iPhone for Tap to Pay.
According to a list released by Apple, other payment service companies getting ready to offer Tap to Pay for iPhone include Square, Stripe, Chase, Clover, GoDaddy, North American Bancard and Worldpay.
Apple personnel started testing the technology at the Apple Park Visitor Center in May, while Square allowed shops to test contactless payment acceptance using Tap to Pay in June.
