SK Telecom launches world’s first in-flight Wi-Fi automatic roaming service
SK Telecom has launched the “T In-flight Wi-Fi Automatic Roaming” service in collaboration with SK Telink. Announced on April 15, this innovative service allows passengers to connect to in-flight Wi-Fi automatically without undergoing additional authentication procedures, marking a first for domestic telecom companies in South Korea.
The introduction of this service is a leap forward from traditional in-flight Wi-Fi access processes. Typically, passengers must check availability through airline websites and make payments either before or after boarding. Once onboard, they navigate through airline portals and complete membership registration or user authentication—a cumbersome process that can detract from convenience.
SK Telecom’s new service simplifies this procedure significantly. By subscribing to the T In-flight Wi-Fi Automatic Roaming service before boarding, customers can bypass these steps entirely. The service employs “Passpoint” technology, which automates authentication and eliminates even voucher code entry. This means that once subscribed, passengers can enjoy immediate internet access as soon as they connect to the in-flight Wi-Fi network.
Currently available on select Korean Air flights, SK Telecom plans to expand this automatic roaming capability to major domestic airlines in the future. Passengers can check availability through the T Roaming website or at airport roaming centers before their flight. sk telecom in-flight Wi-Fi automatic roaming
