Siminn keeps the UK and Gibraltar under ‘Roam like Home’ until November. Icelandic operator Siminn said it is postponing the removal of the UK and Gibraltar from its Roam-like Home service from 01 September until 01 November. The operator said that more information and a price list for roaming in the UK and Gibraltar would be announced in due course.
What is the travel package, and how does it work?
The travel package is a great way to reduce phone costs when traveling to individual countries in Asia, Australia, North America, South America, Africa, and European countries outside the EEA. See the list of included countries below. The travel package is for both subscriptions and Frelsi and you can apply for it in the Símaapp or on the Service website.
How much does the travel package cost?
A daily fee of ISK 1,000/per day is paid, which is only paid when you are abroad and use the phone there. We send you an SMS if the number of daily fees during the trip approaches ISK 7,200, but you can always monitor your internet usage in our app.
Cheaper calls abroad
You pay only 10 ISK. for the minute in calls to all countries in the package. For calls to countries outside the package, the price list of the country from which the call is made applies. Does not apply to domestic or foreign premium service numbers.
No initial fees
You pay no initial fees, neither to Iceland nor to other countries included in the package.
Sends SMS and receives calls for 0 ISK.
Send as many SMS as you want abroad. It is included in the package.
The first 3 MB within a day are at ISK 0. 500 MB data volume included
The Travel Package includes 500 MB per day. If the 500 MB runs out, a 500 MB top-up will automatically occur and the daily fee will be paid again.
Data card
Data cards can also use MB in the Travel Package. Data cards, Family cards and all numbers that share data volume in one mobile subscription also share the Travel Package. Once you have registered for the Travel Package, it is activated as soon as you connect to a service provider in the country.

What price list applies on board ferries such as Smyril? siminn sim card
If traveling by ferry/cruise ship, there are usually two options if customers want to use phone service on board:
- Connecting to wifi on board or
- to roam, i.e. to have turned on roaming and use Síminn’s roaming contracts.
Alertify recommends that customers familiarize themselves with the price list of each ship for the use of wifi on board. Just like almost all operators, Síminn sends SMS messages to customers with information on how much it costs to use the phone if roaming is switched on. We always recommend that customers turn off roaming, as it is very expensive to use the phone while roaming at sea.
