Lenovo CEO and MD Rahul Agarwal said that online classes are driving sales of laptops in the consumer segment, where students want devices with high computing power that they can use for studies as well as playing games.

“Consumer market is now growing at a much faster pace than pre-COVID-19 times. If we look at June and July sales, the market would have been 40-50 percent higher than last year June and July. We clearly see the market growing in high double-digit in gaming. That will continue. With these laptops, the value market will grow much higher than the volume market,” Agarwal said while announcing three new gaming series laptops.

The company unveiled three gaming laptop segments.

“Home PCs are largely driven by learning at home. Legion 7i is for high-end gamers but Legion 5Pi and Legion 5i will appeal to students who want to buy a laptop for their education but want to play games as well,” Agarwal said.

The company has used the 10th generation Intel i9 processor in the Legion 7i series and therefore priced it close to Rs 2 lakh per unit.

All three laptop models will be available in the country by the end of this month.

Agarwal said gaming will also grow at a higher rate because people are looking for high computing power to accelerate their work, which will drive sales for Legion PCs. Personal computer sales

We expect double-digit growth in gaming PCs. We are creating a value market. This could be 15-20 percent of our consumer segment revenue. It was around 10-12 percent earlier,” Agarwal said.

Factors to Consider Before Buying

  • Budget: Determine how much you’re willing to spend.
  • Desired performance: What games do you want to play? What resolution and frame rate are you aiming for?
  • Component preferences: Do you have a preference for AMD or Intel CPUs, NVIDIA or AMD GPUs?
  • Aesthetics: Do you prefer a sleek, minimalist design or a flashy RGB-lit build?
  • Future upgrades: Consider if you might want to upgrade components in the future.

Popular Gaming PC Brands

There is a wide range of pre-built gaming PCs from various brands. Here are some popular options:

  • LG: Offers budget-friendly gaming laptops with decent performance.
  • Lenovo: Known for offering a wide range of gaming laptops to suit various budgets and needs.
  • Gigabyte: Focuses on powerful gaming laptops with strong performance and often aggressive designs.
  • Acer: Provides a balance of performance and affordability in its gaming laptop lineup.
  • ASUS ROG: Renowned for high-end gaming laptops with cutting-edge technology and premium build quality.

Key Components of a Gaming PC

A gaming PC is essentially a puzzle with several crucial pieces:

  • Processor (CPU): The brain of your system. Options like Intel’s Core i5 or i7, or AMD’s Ryzen 5 or 7 are popular choices.
  • Graphics Card (GPU): Handles the visual magic. NVIDIA’s RTX series (e.g., RTX 3060, 3070) or AMD’s Radeon RX series (e.g., RX 6700 XT) are strong contenders.
  • Motherboard: Connects all components. Choose based on your CPU and desired features (e.g., overclocking, number of PCIe slots).
  • Memory (RAM): Crucial for multitasking and running demanding games. 16GB is a good starting point, but 32GB is better for high-end systems.
  • Storage: SSDs for fast boot times and game loading, HDDs for bulk storage.
  • Power Supply Unit (PSU): Provides power to all components. Choose a PSU with enough wattage to handle your system.
  • Case: Protects your components and adds style. Consider airflow and cable management.

Building vs. Buying

  • Building your own: Offers customization, potential cost savings, and a sense of accomplishment.
  • Buying a pre-built: Convenient often includes a warranty, and can sometimes offer better value for money.
Additional Considerations
  • Cooling: Essential for preventing overheating. Consider air cooling or liquid cooling.
  • Operating System: Windows 10 or 11 is the standard for gaming.
  • Peripherals: Monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, and other accessories.
