Orange Luxembourg Launches eSIM In Luxembourg

Orange Luxembourg will introduce eSim support on 30 March, a first in the country. The service will initially be available with a range of compatible smartphones and will soon be extended to other devices, including tablets and smart watches.

Supporting eSIM opens the door to entirely new customer experiences. “With eSIM, we are becoming a fully digital operator. We are paving the way for new and simpler digital uses. For instance, users will now be able to easily add a new eSIM profile and juggle private and business subscriptions. The eSIM will make life easier for frequent travelers, expatriates and tourists: they will be able to easily opt for a local subscription when they stay in Luxembourg”, explains Corinne Lozé, Chief Executive Officer, Orange Luxembourg.

Support for eSIM will also enable Orange Luxembourg to offer new subscription services for a wide range of devices, such as tablets, connected watches and other wearables in the near future.

As of March 30, all Orange residential customers with a compatible smartphone will no longer need to insert a SIM card into their device to access the Orange Luxembourg network. A real revolution is underway.

“eSIM will deliver environmental benefits by reducing the use of plastic and streamlining logistics processes.”

The launch of eSIM support gives Orange Luxembourg an opportunity to prove its commitment as a responsible and committed operator. Jean-Christophe Bayet, Chief IT & Network Orange Luxembourg: “eSIM will deliver environmental benefits by reducing the use of plastic and streamlining logistics processes. We are once again demonstrating our position as and commitment to the environment”.

The company expects the eSIM to capture a larger market share than the conventional SIM card in the Luxembourgish market by 2025 and to dominate the marketshare by 2030. According to a recent projection by Counterpoint Research, deliveries of eSIM-based devices will reach nearly two billion units worldwide by 2025. Most device manufacturers already rely on embedded SIMs as the elimination of the drawer required for traditional SIM cards frees up space for other components.
