OnePlus announces OnePlus Pay mobile payment
Alongside the Oneplus 7T, Oneplus at the India event today announced its own mobile payment system to take on the likes of Google Pay and Apple Pay. Dubbed the Oneplus Pay, the company revealed that the service will fully be available from 2020, stressing that we no more need a wallet with the arrival of the Oneplus Pay.
Official details are scarce. Still, Oneplus revealed that work on the Oneplus Pay has been on for a while now, and is now due to arrive in 2020. Perhaps, the rollout will begin in India, given that the announcement first surfaced in an India event. A Global rollout is also plausible. At what time the Oneplus Pay will debut in 2020, what banks and services will be compatible has yet to be revealed.
OnePlus isn’t the first smartphone manufacturer to offer a mobile payment service. Samsung offers Samsung Pay, Apple offers Apple Pay and Google offers Google Pay – the latter of which is available on most Android smartphones. There are also payment services from the likes of Fitbit and Garmin too, for payment from fitness devices.
Head of the Software Product Growth division at OnePlus while introducing the Oneplus Pay said;
“There’s a very fantastic product we’ve been working on for a little over a year now. I couldn’t be more excited to tell you guys that starting sometime next year, you will no longer need your physical wallet as we are announcing OnePlus Pay.”
