O2 Slovakia stops allowing permanent roaming in Czechia
After six years, the Slovak O2 canceled the possibility to use mobile services in the Czech Republic without restrictions and surcharges “at home”. The change has taken place since yesterday and applies to all customers. The operator announced it at the end of April .
“As of June 29, 2020, we have unified the conditions for using our services in the Czech Republic with other countries of the European Union,” says O2.
In the Czech Republic, the operator began to apply the same limits as the regulation shown to operators in other EU countries. After exceeding the limits, the provider can charge you a surcharge of 4.2 euros for 1 GB of data, a surcharge of 0.038 euros per minute of calling and 0.012 euros per SMS. Supplements may not apply automatically.
How consumption is monitored and what can be expected
- the operator was to start monitoring consumption from yesterday
- The first category of customers could therefore feel the restrictions at the end of August – if they were in the Czech Republic all the time, they would not meet the conditions, just as if they had only been there for some time, but would have consumed more during it than in Slovakia.
- before charging the surcharges, the operator will notify you and the customer will be given 14 days to rectify the situation
- therefore, the operator can actually start charging surcharges just before mid-September
Based on regulation, operators monitor consumption for four months – half of the time you must be in the Slovak Republic, or make more than 50 percent of calls, SMS and data traffic in the Slovak Republic.
It is said that there were 10,000 clients in the Czech Republic o2 slovakia roaming in czech
O2 has previously specified for Živé.sk that less than half a percent of clients, ie approximately 10,000 customers, are said to use services permanently in the Czech Republic. At the same time, the operator explains that the market has changed in recent years and that European regulation in 2014 was not nearly as high as it is today.
“If the client wants to request termination from services from abroad and does not have the opportunity to visit the O2 Store, he can request termination by sending a signed request in writing. In this situation, we also accept the sent scanned request, “said O2 spokeswoman Tereza Molnár.
