Netflix is working on a live streaming option
Netflix may be about to expand its operation into the live streaming segment. According to the Deadline portal, the company is developing this new way of consuming content on the platform. The idea is to debut stand-up comedy shows and other live events. netflix news
The rights would allow the company to broadcast meetings of reality show participants and open voting to the public, thus bringing a new form of interaction to the table.
The issue of “specials” is one of the most relevant, since Netflix invests millions in the creation of exclusive shows with some of the most popular comedians in the world, as well as in Netflix Is a Joke Fest, a festival dedicated to humor held by the first time this year.
The lineup for this festival featured more than 130 comedians, such as Bill Burr and Jerry Seinfeld. Some of the performances will premiere on the platform until the end of June. With live streaming, the North American giant would have managed to create something more dynamic and integrated between digital platforms and physical events.
Netflix has yet to reveal anything about this feature. What is certain is that there are competitors to experiment with in the field of rights. In February, Disney Plus broadcast a live broadcast of the Oscars and now has the show Dança com as Estrelas about to premiere in the same way, with weekly broadcasts scheduled.
It is recalled that Netflix announced the loss of subscribers for the first time in more than 10 years. Conversely, Disney Plus gained 7.9 million subscribers during the first quarter of this year. The investment in live streaming may be part of the North American giant’s strategy to reverse the market trend.
The biggest question is whether live streaming may be used for sports; nevertheless, there is no evidence that this would ever happen. netflix news
