M1 offers free accident insurance to roaming
M1 offers various roaming plans to meet different budgets and usage patterns. Their Data Passport and Daily Unlimited Data Passport generally provide good value for the price. M1 roaming insurance
M1’s roaming plans now come with complimentary overseas accident protection and coverage via insurance. M1 has partnered with Chubb Insurance Singapore Limited (Chubb) to offer insurance coverage for travellers going out of Singapore. It is free of charge (free to enroll, free to use) for eligible M1 Data Passport customers signing up for a roaming plan when heading overseas.
Users who get a Daily Passport (which starts at S$2.95 for 3GB) or Data Passport (use local data allotment while overseas, which starts at S$15 per destination) are eligible for the complimentary 6-month Overseas Accident Protection. It includes:
- Accidental death or permanent disablement coverage payable (up to S$5,000)
- Accidental medical expense reimbursement (up to S$100)
- 24-hour protection worldwide, excluding sanctioned countries
To use the free coverage, toggle the opt-in button on the Daily Passport or Data Passport subscription page inside the My M1+ app. You’ll then be prompted to register for the policy through Chubb.
How to sign up:
- Activate your Daily or Data Passport roaming plan on the My M1+ app.
- Turn on data roaming when you reach your travel destination.
- Complete a simple sign-up process with Chubb for the insurance.
As with any insurance product, be very mindful of the T&Cs so you are fully aware of their eligibility and limitations. The coverage is available to Singapore Residents aged between 18 and 65. The list of sanctioned countries is also available on its FAQ. Most importantly, the insurance is covered by Chubbs (and not M1), so you’ll have to make any claims through Chubbs on its official landing page here. M1 roaming insurance
