After analyzing almost two months of data, a noticeable trend emerged – data usage in Europe has increased by almost 10%. This increase cannot be solely attributed to the holiday season, indicating that people may not be as vigilant about using local WIFI as they were before, believing it to be free now.

However, this misconception could lead to unexpected expenses as mobile networks have been increasing their Out of Bundle Costs across the board. Many users fail to comprehend that EU data usage is not free, but rather falls under their existing UK data package.

Some networks charge up to £20-£30 per GB for Out of Bundle Data usage costs, which clearly indicates that they anticipate a specific pattern.

Also, countries that were not previously EU but still treated previously as so for European bundle costs will still continue to be charged.

Certain networks have also changed the composition of their world zones for roaming, including new countries and removing others such as UAE on one mobile network having a significant effect.

  1. Make sure users are aware that good practices whilst abroad should always continue
  2. Have a policy in place to monitor and control users overseas
  3. Ensure that your account is fully utilizing bundles for both domestic and international usage, even if the usage is occasional. The cost of applying a bundle or upgrading to the next level is often so low that it makes financial sense to apply it to a wide range of users. By doing so, the overall costs can be contained and reduced.
  4. In other words, there is no substitute for a proper understanding of business user-profiles and close monitoring of any changes. via
