In February, Google revealed its plans to introduce eSIM transfer capabilities to Android sometime within the year. This feature would enable users to swiftly and securely shift their mobile plan to a new device, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card swap. Recently, code detective AssembleDebug shared images on X (previously known as Twitter), demonstrating the functionality of this feature.

The process appears to be initiated by users scanning a QR code displayed on their new device using their old one. Following the successful scan, users must finalize the eSIM transfer on their new device. The process is as straightforward as it sounds. Screenshots illustrating this feature are provided below.

Undoubtedly, this will streamline the eSIM profile transfer process significantly compared to the current method. Presently, users have to manually unregister their eSIM profile from their existing device and reactivate it on the new one, often necessitating contact with their carrier to accomplish this task.

The eSIM transfer tool is still in development, but it is expected to be released in the near future. It is a welcome addition to Android, as it will make it easier for users to switch carriers and devices.
