From the Sky to Everyday Life: Hrvatski Telekom Launches Free In-Flight Wi-Fi and Magenta AI
Hrvatski Telekom now offers all passengers flying on Croatia Airlines’ new Airbus A220 aircraft a new permanent benefit—unlimited free in-flight internet. This innovative service is available to all passengers, regardless of their telecom operator, setting a new standard of digital connectivity in air travel. Hrvatski Telekom free in-flight Wi-Fi
Free browsing, including access to video content, is enabled through the international Magenta Moments rewards program. With this, Croatia has become the first of nine participating countries in the program to introduce such a service on airplanes.
The official launch of the new benefit took place on a recent flight from Zagreb to Dubrovnik, where stand-up comedian Ivan Šarić surprised passengers by distributing special codes for free browsing along with gift packages from HT and its partners. In addition, three lucky passengers won the latest iPhone 16 devices through scratch cards hidden on their seats.
To access free in-flight Wi-Fi, passengers simply need to download the Moj Telekom app, register, and activate their free internet code within the “Magenta Moments” section just before the flight. The code can be redeemed in exchange for 500 “hearts,” which users collect through daily check-ins, games, or by taking advantage of partner offers.
This new benefit is set to delight a wide range of travelers, from business passengers to those looking for entertainment and relaxation during the flight. Traveling thus becomes more productive and seamlessly connected at every moment.
“With free in-flight Wi-Fi, flying becomes more enjoyable and time passes more quickly, whether passengers want to use it for work or leisure. Hrvatski Telekom continuously enriches its program with benefits that bring real value, and we are pleased that through Magenta Moments we’ve made browsing in the air an experience available to everyone,”
said Krešimir Madunović, Management Board Member and Chief Operating Officer for private customers at Hrvatski Telekom.
Magenta AI
But Hrvatski Telekom isn’t stopping at in-flight connectivity. The company is also enhancing the digital lives of its customers on the ground with the launch of Magenta AI, a smart virtual assistant integrated into the Moj Telekom app. Developed in cooperation with Perplexity AI, Magenta AI provides fast, intelligent, and relevant answers to a wide range of inquiries. Whether it’s solving math problems, drafting a better email, generating a video summary, translating text, or even suggesting a weekend trip idea, Magenta AI delivers accurate results—without the need for any extra app, registration, or subscription.
Accessible directly from the app’s main navigation at no extra charge, Magenta AI is designed to make everyday tasks simpler while laying the groundwork for future digital innovations. Features involving images, sound, and collaborations with new partners such as Picsart are already on the horizon, with a widget option available for instant one-click access. To further enrich the ecosystem, Perplexity PRO licenses are once again available to Moj Telekom users through the Magenta Moments program. By redeeming 3,000 hearts, anyone can unlock a full year of Pro access—valued at over 200 euros—positioning the Moj Telekom app as the central hub for smart tools that support both work and daily life.
Ivan Runje, Director of Residential Marketing and Product Management at Hrvatski Telekom
The opportunities that AI offers, whether in business as increased efficiency, personalized services, and better customer experience or in all areas of personal life, are enormous. At HT, we continually develop new ways, tools, and applications of artificial intelligence. After giving everyone access to a free year of Perplexity PRO subscription, Magenta AI is a new but certainly not the last useful tool with which we are making artificial intelligence available to everyone. Built around simplicity and powered by one of the most advanced AI assistants, Magenta AI ensures an excellent experience for everyone. This brings us a big step closer to the concept of a mobile phone without unnecessary apps, driven exclusively by artificial intelligence, capable of independently handling all requests, such as booking flight tickets or accommodation. For example, the newly launched T Phone 3 and T Tablet 2 devices already come with the Magenta AI assistant pre-installed.
Conclusion
Hrvatski Telekom’s news—free unlimited in-flight WiFi on Croatia Airlines’ new A220s, coupled with the rollout of the Magenta AI assistant in the Moj Telekom app—are not just smart product launches but well-timed strategic moves that mirror, and in places lead, where the telecom and aviation industries are heading.
In the in-flight connectivity space, airlines across Europe and globally are rapidly moving toward offering complimentary internet access as part of the basic service. For example, Air France is now deploying free high-speed WiFi in all cabins of its aircraft, aiming for complete fleet coverage by the end of 2026. Meanwhile, passenger demand is shifting: surveys show that free WiFi has become a top factor in airline choice, ahead of perks like food or legroom. In that environment, HT’s initiative places it firmly among leading carriers and telecom providers offering what customers increasingly expect rather than what they consider premium extras.
On the AI front, Magenta AI comes at a time when telecoms are accelerating investment in generative and customer-facing AI tools. According to recent surveys, almost all telcos are actively exploring or deploying AI, with a large share targeting improved customer experience, operational efficiency, and new service creation. Telcos like SK Telecom have already partnered with Perplexity for AI search and assistance services, demonstrating that this is an area of competitive differentiation. What Hrvatski Telekom is doing—integrating AI tools into its core consumer app, offering value without additional subscription, and tying this into its rewards programme — is aligned with best practices in the sector.
Where HT may have an edge is in the seamlessness and inclusion. Many airlines putting in free WiFi still tie it to loyalty programs or limit bandwidth or available features. HT’s offer is more universally accessible (regardless of operator), integrated into existing user flows (Moj Telekom app), and backed by reward mechanisms (Magenta Moments). Likewise, its AI integration is designed to be low friction (no extra app or registration) and promises continuous improvement and extension (images, sound, partners like Picsart).
Looking to the near future, several things will test the strength of HT’s approach:
- User experience and reliability — as more players promise free WiFi, performance (latency, bandwidth, and consistent connection over all legs) becomes key.
- Monetization or cost sustainability — delivering free WiFi and AI services at scale is costly; how HT leverages its rewards program, partner relationships, or perhaps ad-supported or premium tiers will be critical.
- Regulatory and technical infrastructure—spectrum, satellite connectivity (for long-haul or remote routes), and data privacy and security (especially with AI)—will continue to be areas to navigate.
In summary, by combining free in-flight connectivity with advanced AI services, Hrvatski Telekom is not only keeping pace with global telecom and airline trends but positioning itself as a leader in digital convenience for travelers. If executed well, these offerings could significantly strengthen its brand, customer stickiness, and competitive positioning both in Croatia and among regional peers.
