Cross-channel rail operator Getlink saw all-time record bookings for its passenger shuttle services on the weekend after the UK Government announced it was relaxing travel restrictions to some destinations. Eurotunnel bookings
But the company carried fewer than half its usual number of passenger vehicles in the first six months of the year due to the pandemic.
From January to June the number of passenger vehicles on the Eurotunnel services dropped to just 554,577, a year-on-year fall of 52%.
Freight traffic held up better, with only an 18% drop.
Releasing its figures for the first half of the year today, Getlink said:”The anticipation of quarantine measures being relaxed in the UK for tourists led to an all-time record for bookings on the weekend of 27-28 June.”
The Government had announced on June 26 that it intended to relax travel restrictions to several countries, and it confirmed last week that the list would include France and much of Europe.
