Calls to European countries will be up to 70% cheaper

For the next few years, they expect investments of between 500,000 and 600,000 million euros in infrastructure to develop the industry.

This new pact establishes that the price of the minute in calls between member countries may not exceed 19 cents , while SMS may not cost more than 6 cents . The date from which this new measure will be applied is May 15, 2019, and represents a reduction of 70% with respect to the price charged by Spanish operators at this moment for this concept.

The current prices ranged between 18 and 60 cents for the call establishment, and between 36 and 79 cents per minute . In Germany, the price could be up to 2 euros per minute.

This new regulation already had the agreement of the European Parliament and the Member States. Today already has the support of the European Parliament and updates the law that had so far dating from 2009. The measure has had 590 votes in favor, 63 against and 23 abstentions.

Calls and SMS are still a barrier in the European Union europe calls

Although it is currently the same cost to call Spain from other countries or to use our data without fear, international calls and SMS to other countries remain expensive. That means that when we travel, we can not call people we have met in that country without paying the additional cost of calling a foreign country to ours.

The operators complained about this price reduction per minute, since they claim that they have already lost a lot of income for applications such as WhatsApp , which not only allow sending free messages with the data, but allow calls and video calls through VoIP.

The EU is focused on telecommunications, where they also want to harmonize licenses and the spectrum used by 5G to prevent each country from using the band it wants. In addition, they are offering licenses of at least 20 years. By 2020 all 5G bands must be released and available to operators. europe calls
