Millions of EE mobile phone customers will see charges rise for a number of out-of-bundle charges this summer. These will affect anyone who goes over their monthly bundle and those using services not included in their monthly mobile package.

Some of the biggest hikes include calls from the UK to Ireland or the Channel Islands rising from 50p per minute to £1 and calls to the EU rising to £1.50 from £1 per minute.

The increase in charges for calls, texts, or data used outside a customer’s contract limit, or bundle, was expected to come into force on June 25.

However, after customer complaints, Ofcom has ruled that the phone network was initially “not clear enough” in informing customers that they could end their contracts without early exit fees before the deadline, reports Birmingham Live.

As a result, EE customers affected by the price hike will have an extra 30 days to change providers without being charged.

EE has said it will write to all affected customers to inform them of the early exit extension on August 16.

The network provider will also refund any customers who have chosen to leave their contracts, the difference between the old price and the new increased price, for any charges incurred as a result of using any of the services affected by the price rise since June 2018.

A spokesperson for EE said: “Following feedback from Ofcom, we are now re-contacting customers identified as materially worse off to ensure that they’re fully informed of the changes and the options available to them.EE contract end
