Denver International Airport adopts biometric facial recognition technology

In a move towards a more efficient and secure travel experience, Denver International Airport (DEN) has unveiled a new biometric facial recognition system at 15 gates across concourses A and C. This cutting-edge technology aims to streamline the boarding process for international flights by eliminating the need for passengers to present their passports to gate agents.

This new system is designed to streamline and enhance the boarding process for international flights by allowing passengers to board without presenting their passports to gate agents.

“Our investment in this state-of-the-art technology underscores our strong commitment to supporting our airline partners and aligns with federal initiatives to advance secure and efficient air travel,” said Phil Washington, CEO of Denver International Airport. “The system matches travellers’ biometrics with stored biometric information within seconds.”

The integration of this technology aims to make the boarding process more efficient and secure. Facial recognition images are used solely for real-time verification and are deleted immediately after the boarding process. Airlines can also use the system to verify passengers against their lists without requiring physical or digital boarding passes.

“CBP is excited to partner with Denver International Airport on the expansion of facial biometrics to further secure and enhance travel while protecting the privacy of all travellers,” said Diane J. Sabatino, Acting Executive Assistant Commissioner of Field Operations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection. “Public-private partnerships are the best way to fulfil the Congressional mandate while strengthening security and enhancing the travel experience.”

Travellers who prefer not to use the biometric system can opt-out by notifying an airline official or a CBP officer. These passengers will need to present their travel documents for inspection and follow existing departure procedures. Denver International Airport biometric facial recognition
