Cosmote mobile data traffic up almost 50% during summer
Cosmote‘s total mobile and fixed data traffic during the summer increased by almost 50 percent and 35 percent, respectively, compared to June-August in 2018. Cosmote 4G and 4G+ traffic more than doubled, while Cosmote Fiber traffic increased by 70%. The fixed and mobile networks of Cosmote are constantly being upgraded and expanded to meet the increased demands of users wherever they are, the operator says in a press release. Total traffic on the Cosmote mobile network reached 50 PB, with the new Giga Max packages, which significantly increase the GBs of the Cosmote packages, contributing to a 50 percent increase in traffic.
The champions in mobile data consumption growth are Corfu (+ 100 percent), Cyclades (+ 80 percent), Serres (+ 70 percent), Kavala (+ 70 percent), Heraklion Crete (+ 65 percent), the Dodecanese (+ 60 percent), the Lesvos (+ 60 percent) and Halkidiki (+ 50 percent).
Instagram topped the list for another year, accounting for 26 percent of data traffic. Facebook and Youtube ranked second with 21 percent each, followed by web browsing with 7 percent and online entertainment services with 3 percent. Roaming mobile data increased year-on-year and was generated mainly by people residing in EU countries such as Germany, Italy, the UK and Poland. Mobile data traffic from non-EU countries increased by over 85 percent compared to the summer of 2018.
In the fixed segment, total data traffic reached 570 PB, while Cosmote Fiber traffic (FTTC and FTTH) recorded a 70 percent increase over the summer of 2018 as more and more subscribers opted for Cosmote fibre broadband services.
