Coors Field Integrates Age Verification with Biometric Payments for Alcohol Purchases

Coors Field, the Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball (MLB) team’s home ground, has pioneered the use of Amazon’s updated palm biometric payment system, eliminating the need for bar staff to manually verify the age of customers buying alcohol. amazon one Age Verification

This new feature allows pre-registered customers to confirm their eligibility to buy alcohol at the stadium’s SandLot Brewery and Silver Bullet Bar by simply placing their palms over an Amazon One device.

Once their age is confirmed, users can use the same palm biometric device to pay for their beverages

Amazon clarifies, “Customers already registered with Amazon One can utilize the age verification feature by visiting one.amazon.com and uploading a photo of their government-issued ID, such as their driver’s license, and a selfie.”

Once registered for age verification, customers no longer need to present an ID when buying alcoholic beverages at participating outlets.

Customers not yet registered with Amazon One can pre-register online or at the registration kiosks where Amazon One is available.

“When a registered customer of legal drinking age places their palm over an Amazon One device, the bartender will see a ’21+’ message along with the customer-uploaded selfie on the screen,” Amazon adds.

“The bartender will quickly compare the photo on their screen with the customer standing before them, and then proceed with the sale. When the customer is ready to pay, they simply place their palm over the Amazon One device again, and their purchase will be charged.”

Amazon notes, “Verifying a customer’s age for every alcohol purchase is a known issue for retailers, bars, and breweries. It results in longer transaction times and impacts employee productivity. Amazon One’s age verification feature addresses these issues and reduces the need — and time — for manual ID verification.”

John McKay, senior director of food service operations and development for the Colorado Rockies, says, “At Coors Field, we have always prioritized customer experience. As the first sports stadium to implement advanced palm recognition technology like Amazon One for age verification, we are providing a seamless experience for Colorado Rockies fans, enabling them to quickly grab a drink and return to the game.”
