Claro launches eSim for smartphones in Brazil

eSIM is a technology that has been identified as the next step in the evolution of the mobile phone chip, which has gradually declined in size since a few years ago. The tool will be critical to the next steps in technology, especially for the Internet of Things, which should bring connectivity to many tiny devices that would not have room for a conventional chip. Claro confirmed the launch of eSIM technology for smartphones. The service, called e-Chip by the company, allows the activation of telephony and mobile internet services without performing the physical chip exchange of a mobile phone.
The main advantage of eSIM is that it is not necessary to open the drawer for chip exchange when the user wants to change operators since the whole process is done through software. This positive point, however, still does not make much sense in Brazil, since Claro, for now, is the only one to offer the service among the main operators, but there are other qualities.

The latest batch of Apple flagships features a dual SIM that comes with a conventional nano-SIM chip and another eSIM. As no national company supports this yet, to enable it iPhone XS and  XS Max users need to use international data plans available here, such as BNESIM and GigSky.

Claro still has an e-chip page and explains that it will be possible to register two numbers in the same eSIM, share the same number and internet package plans on different devices, and provide facilities for locating your device in case of theft or loss since the component cannot be removed and the phone will remain connected while the line is activated unless it is turned off.

How to activate eSim
