Central African countries work on free roaming project
In the end, the purpose of this meeting is to adopt these Regulations at the next session of the ministers of the Central African Economic Union (Ueac).
Until now, Cemac citizens have been forced to pay exorbitant roaming charges when they move around the community. For a Cameroonian who is in roaming mode in Gabon, for example, receiving a minute phone call can cost him up to 5,000 FCFA. A situation that officials in the sub-region want to remedy.
While there are some mobile network operators that operate across multiple CEMAC countries, roaming offers and prices can vary depending on the specific operator and country. Here are some general points to consider regarding mobile data roaming in CEMAC countries:
- Network Coverage: Network coverage can vary across the different CEMAC countries and regions, and may not be as extensive as in some other parts of the world.
- Local Mobile Operators: Each CEMAC country has its own local mobile network operators. Some of the major mobile network operators include Orange, MTN, Airtel, and Moov.
- Roaming Services: Visitors to CEMAC countries can use mobile data roaming services provided by their home network operators or purchase local SIM cards from one of the local operators.
- Prices: Prices for mobile data roaming in CEMAC countries can be relatively expensive and vary depending on the specific country, operator, and roaming plan chosen. Visitors can also purchase local SIM cards with data plans ranging from 1 GB to unlimited data, depending on their needs.
- Data Speed: Mobile data speeds in CEMAC countries can be slower than in some other parts of the world, and may also vary depending on the specific location and network coverage.
- Wi-Fi Availability: Public Wi-Fi hotspots are not as widely available in CEMAC countries as in some other parts of the world, and may not always be reliable.
- Additional Charges: Visitors should be aware that additional charges may apply for using mobile data roaming services in CEMAC countries, including charges for exceeding data limits, making calls or sending text messages, and using premium services.
Overall, visitors to CEMAC countries should carefully consider their mobile data roaming options and prices before choosing a roaming plan or purchasing a local SIM card. It’s also a good idea to check with local operators and compare prices and services before making a decision.
