Ryanair’s July Ota Pirate Survey Shows Edreams Overcharges Users by +108%
Ryanair released on July 11, its July OTA Pirate survey which shows eDreams is Europe’s No.1 OTA Pirate. eDreams continue to scam and overcharge their “Prime members” by over 100%, (€30.92) for a Wizz Air 10kg bag that cost just €14.90 direct with the airline. Similarly, eDreams advertises inflated seat prices of €39.49 for a BA reserved seat despite the same seat on BA’s website costing just €23.00, a +72% overcharge. Ryanair notes that eDreams is not selling Ryanair fares in July but is still overcharging for other airline flights and services.
This is the latest example of digital piracy by OTA Pirate eDreams, whose business model depends on scamming consumers who eDreams (among others) wrongly mislead into thinking they are getting “discounts” on fares/ancillaries when in reality eDreams is overcharging them with hidden mark-ups and overcharges of over 100%.
Ryanair continues to campaign for consumer protection from overcharging OTA Pirates such as eDreams who are scamming consumers, and calls again on EU Govts and consumer agencies to take urgent action to stop this OTA piracy and consumer rip-offs.
Ryanair’s Dara Brady said: “Our July OTA Pirate survey exposes eDreams as Europe’s No.1 OTA Pirate. They continue to scam and overcharge their customers by up to 108%. This is just the latest example of OTA Pirates, such as eDreams, unlawfully scraping airline sites so they can overcharge unsuspecting consumers. eDreams should stop screen scraping and duping customers and instead agree to sell airline flights with transparent pricing, just as Ryanair’s growing network of “Approved OTA” partners have done.
It is unacceptable that the EU Govts and Consumer agencies continue to ignore this rampant digital piracy and anti-consumer overcharging. Ryanair will continue to campaign against OTA Pirates such as eDreams by exposing their overcharging scams, and will continue to call for these OTA Pirates to be outlawed.”
The Future of OTA Partnerships
Continued Growth and Collaboration
As more airlines recognize the benefits of partnering with approved OTAs, we can expect continued growth and collaboration in this space. These partnerships not only enhance the booking experience for customers but also drive innovation and efficiency in the travel industry.
Meeting Customer Expectations
In an era where customers expect convenience and transparency, OTA partnerships are vital. By working together, airlines and OTAs can meet and exceed these expectations, offering a seamless and enjoyable travel experience from booking to boarding.
