The mandatory age verification component triggers the biggest pushback. To comply with the law, platforms may need to collect new forms of personal data or require official IDs — a move critics say could create long-term privacy issues. Larger players can afford to redesign onboarding and compliance flows, but smaller, community-based platforms fear they’ll face existential costs.
