Apple Pay goes live in Luxembourg and Hungary

Apple Pay officially launched in Hungary and Luxembourg today, enabling bank card holders there to use Apple’s mobile payment system for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch wherever they see the contactless logo, Macrumors reports. In Luxembourg, BGL BNP Paribas is currently the sole bank supporting Apple’s digital wallet, while OTP Bank is supporting Apple Pay in Hungary.

Apple’s regional websites for Luxembourg and Hungary both highlight 12 major retail chains that accept the mobile payment system, including Apple resellers in the two countries.

The expansion within Europe follows the launch of Apple Pay in Iceland earlier this month. Elsewhere, regional banks in The Netherlands and Portugal have teased that Apple’s contactless payment system is “coming soon.”

Apple CEO Tim Cook said in March that Apple Pay would be available in more than 40 countries and regions by the end of 2019, so the rollout is well on track, although Apple’s website has yet to be updated with the full list. Apple Pay first launched in the United States in October 2014.

The easiest way to pay in stores.

Using Apple Pay with your iPhone or Apple Watch is faster than using a credit or debit card. Because spending money shouldn’t mean spending more time at the register.

The easiest way to pay within apps.

Use Apple Pay on the App Store to buy apps and games, or within apps to pay for a ride, a pizza delivery, or a new pair of sneakers — with just a touch or a glance. You can also use Apple Pay for a subscription to Apple Music, upgraded iCloud storage, and other Apple services.

The easiest way to pay on the web.

When you’re making purchases on the web in Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you can use Apple Pay without having to create an account or fill out lengthy forms. And with Touch ID on MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, paying takes just a touch and is quicker, easier, and more secure than ever before.

The easiest way to send and receive money.

You can use Apple Pay to pay and get paid right in Messages, or by asking Siri. There’s no app to download, and you can use the cards you already have in Wallet. Send money for books to your son in college. Split a bill. Chip in for a gift. Send and receive from across the table — or across the country.
