Apple has released the Car Key Tests app for developers of digital car keys

Unlocking a car using a smartphone is a service that is available on many newer car models. The service is typically offered through a mobile app provided by the car manufacturer or a third-party service provider. The Car Key function was announced by Apple back in July 2020 as well. It allows you to unlock the car using a smartphone. Digital keys are stored in the Wallet application. Currently, Car Key only supports select BMW, Kia, and Genesis models. However, there is hope that the situation will improve in the near future. Apple Car Key app

Apple, in particular, released a special application Car Key Tests, which is available at direct link in the App Store. It allows developers to test the integration of digital car keys with the Car Key function. Only Made for iPhone (MFi) licensees can use the application.

It can be assumed that Apple previously provided this application to partners privately. Now the app is easier to download, so perhaps more companies are testing the integration of digital keys with Car Key.

The App Store screenshots for the new Car Keys Tests app show various pages within the app, offering a brief look at the testing process car manufacturers need to undertake to have their vehicles certified to be Car Key compatible.

Despite anyone being able to download the app from the App Store using a direct link, only Apple’s MFi Licensees will be able to actually use the app by signing in using their Apple Car Key credentials.

The most known apps for unlocking cars are usually provided by the car manufacturers themselves, and are typically specific to the make and model of the car.
