This tool, set to launch in beta for select US travelers on June 28, is designed to transform the travel planning process, making it more efficient and personalized.

Exploring a New Way to Plan Travel with Booking.com

The AI Trip Planner is built on Booking.com’s existing machine learning models, which already offer destination and accommodation recommendations to millions of travelers daily. The tool is also partially powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT API, enabling a conversational experience for users as they begin their trip planning process.

Travelers can interact with the AI Trip Planner to ask general travel-related questions or more specific queries to support any stage of their trip planning process. This includes exploring potential destinations and accommodation options, seeking travel inspiration based on individual needs and requirements, and even creating itineraries for a particular city, country, or region.

Tailored Travel Recommendations with AI

The AI Trip Planner allows travelers to chat and describe what they’re looking for in broad or specific terms, ask questions, and refine their search in real-time. From seeking inspiration for romantic beach destinations in the Caribbean to narrowing down a specific list of vacation homes for a family of four, the AI Trip Planner provides recommendations in a quick, conversational manner.

An Integrated Travel Planning Experience

The AI Trip Planner enhances the trip planning process by providing travelers with a visual list of destinations and properties, including Booking.com’s pricing information. Travelers can easily switch between their chat with the AI Trip Planner and the Booking.com app interface as they consider options for their trip. With just a tap on any accommodation they are interested in, they can complete the reservation, as the AI Trip Planner is directly integrated into the accommodation booking experience in the Booking.com app.

Booking.com’s CEO, Glenn Fogel, emphasizes that their primary aim has always been to leverage technology to make travel easier. The recent developments with generative AI are accelerating the work they’ve been doing for years with machine learning to enhance and improve every aspect of the customer experience on their platform.

Rob Francis, CTO of Booking.com, shares the excitement about the possibilities the new AI Trip Planner provides. He believes that generative AI allows them to start having scalable, one-to-one conversations with their customers on their terms, much like how you would begin to talk about planning a trip with your partner or friends.

Starting on June 28, the beta AI Trip Planner will be available to a growing percentage of Booking.com Genius members in the United States over the coming weeks. To access the new travel planning tool, US travelers must be signed in to their Booking.com account in the app and have their language settings set to English.
