Orange Poland to get at least 50% from Play national roaming expenses

National roaming in Poland refers to a system that allows mobile network users to access mobile services from other operators when they are outside of the coverage area of their own operator. This allows customers to use their mobile devices and make calls, send texts, and use data services even when they are in areas where their home network does not have coverage. Orange Poland expects at least PLN 110 million in revenue from roaming cooperation with the operator P4, which trades under the brand Play. Orange poland national roaming
In 2017, the operators annexed the national roaming agreement, under which Orange will become the main roaming partner of Play, instead of T-Mobile Poland.

National roaming agreements guarantee its partner’s annual revenue minimums irrespective of the volume of traffic directed to them. For Orange this year it is PLN 110 million, which would probably account for around half of the year’s total spending on domestic roaming in 2018.

Play does not provide forecasts for these expenses, but they can be estimated based on historical data.

The contract guarantees Orange 51 percent. this amount, but it can not be ruled out that thanks to the terms of the new agreement, it will “capture” even more traffic. Play roaming on the T-Mobile network will not give up completely, if only because it is also obliged to pay for the guaranteed minimums to that partner. A small part of the Play traffic is still being transferred via the Polkomtel network.

110 million PLN of guaranteed revenues this year is 34%. the minimum amount that Play undertook to pay to Orange in 2018-2021.

In Poland, national roaming is regulated by the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) to ensure fair and competitive conditions for all mobile network operators and to protect consumer rights. Under the national roaming regulation, operators are required to provide roaming services to each other’s customers and to charge a regulated fee for such services. This system helps to ensure that mobile users have seamless coverage and connectivity when they travel within Poland, regardless of the network they are subscribed to.
