Join Hawaiian Airlines’ New Virtual Fitness Challenge
Hawaiian Airlines is inviting people to take part in the Hawaiian Airlines Holoholo Challenge, a virtual fitness challenge that offers participants a choice to holoholo (to go out) throughout October and run or walk a 50- or 130-mile “course” while practicing safe social distancing. “Just as we’ve been dreaming of welcoming travelers back to the skies, we know our guests are also looking forward to planning their getaways,” said Rob Sorensen, vice president of marketing and e-commerce at Hawaiian Airlines. “Until that time comes, the Holoholo Challenge offers a safe and healthy way for kama‘āina and Hawai‘i lovers to participate in an engaging activity.”
The challenge’s 50-mile Mauka to Makai course is equivalent to crossing the Ko‘olau mountain range (mauka) and following the coastline (makai) from Waimānalo to downtown Honolulu, while the Around O‘ahu course is the approximate 150-mile distance around the perimeter of the island.
Participants can challenge friends (and earn up to 40,000 bonus HawaiianMiles through a referral program) and create teams within organizations on the Holoholo Challenge website, where they will also have access to a curated Spotify playlist and enjoy content related to the island locations on the virtual ‘route.’ Participants, who must log their mileage online by Oct. 31, are encouraged to join the Holoholo Challenge Facebook Group and share photos of their fitness experience – wherever they may be – using #HoloholoChallenge for a chance to be featured on Hawaiian’s social media channels.
In addition to staying active, all Holoholo Challenge participants will receive a branded, limited-edition athletic T-shirt and personalized running bib. Finishers will also earn the Oʻahu Holoholo Challenge medal for completing their selected course.
HawaiianMiles members can register for $28 ($35 for non-members) today through Sept. 30, and Hawaiian Airlines® Bank of Hawaii World Elite Mastercard® cardholders will receive triple HawaiianMiles on registration fees and on donations to Hawaiian’s event partner, Special Olympics Hawaii. The airline is sponsoring 20 of the nonprofit’s athletes, coaches and volunteers in the challenge, and donations will support Special Olympics Hawaii’s mission to provide year-round sports training, athletic competitions, and programs to promote leadership, health and wellness for over 3,400 children and adults across Hawaiʻi with intellectual disabilities.
