Nokia ranked No. 1 again in telecom software, services
The global telecom software and services market in 2019 grew by about 1% to US$66.9 billion, with Nokia again ranked as the top service provider by market share with approximately US$4 billion, according to the rankings by research firm Analysys Mason in its latest annual report.
The research firm says that overall, the telecom software market is stable, but 5G, cloud computing, and digital transformation are creating new challenges and opportunities.
Analysys Mason ranked Nokia as the top software provider by product market share in its 2017 report and the same top position for both telecom software and services in the research firm’s 2018 report. The latest report for 2019 from the research firm provides market share data for communications service provider (CSP) spending on telecom-specific software systems and related services across seven different segments.
“Nokia is once again the overall leader in telecom software market share for 2019. They achieved this partly through their leadership in strong growth areas like network virtualization but also because they are among the leaders in nearly every major category of telecoms software,” said Larry Goldman, Partner & Head of Networks and Software Research, Analysys Mason.
“New communication service provider software decisions lean heavily toward cloud-native products which work in Nokia’s favor.”
“Understanding our customers and where their needs are going is central to how Nokia Software designs software and services; that is the impulse behind our truly cloud-native applications on the Nokia Common Software Foundation,” spend,” said Bhaskar Gorti, President of Nokia Software and Chief Digital Officer.
“I am extremely pleased for our employees and would say on their behalf that we are gratified that customers continue to prioritize Nokia in their telco software.”
Key developments in the telecoms software and services market in 2019 reported by Analysys Mason include:
- Telecoms software revenue in 2019 grew 1% from 2018; there were only small changes in the relative size of the segments between 2018 and 2019.
- The roll-out of 5G NR has had a small but noticeable, positive effect on spending in most telecoms software segments, but 5G standalone will have a greater impact.
- CSPs’ shift to cloud technologies was another significant driver of change in 2019.
- Digital transformation continues to be an important driver of CSP software spend.
- Professional services account for more than half of CSPs’ overall spend.
