Apple introduced Family Setup in watchOS 7, bringing the communication, health, fitness, and safety features of Apple Watch to kids and older family members of the household who do not have iPhone. For the first time, Apple Watch can be set up through a parent’s iPhone, so kids can enjoy its fun and useful tools while parents have peace of mind knowing they can reach their child and identify their location, and that all personal data stays securely encrypted. Kids and older family members using Family Setup will have their own phone number through a separate mobile plan. Family Setup will be available with watchOS 7.2 and iOS 14.3, and requires cellular models of Apple Watch Series 4 or later or Apple Watch SE, paired with iPhone 6s or later.
StarHub today unveiled its FamilyConnect eSIM service, allowing StarHub customers, from as low as $8 monthly, to enjoy a dedicated mobile plan and number for each Apple Watch, including the ability to enable Family Setup. StarHub FamilyConnect will offer up to 1,000 talktime minutes and 35GB of data, as well as free Caller Number Display and service activation.
“We are thrilled to be the first in Singapore to introduce StarHub FamilyConnect, a cellular service for Family Setup with Apple Watch,” said Johan Buse, Chief of Consumer Business Group, StarHub. “Packing a remarkable suite of communications, health, and safety features, Apple Watch is a go-to device for many of our customers. Now with Family Setup and StarHub FamilyConnect, kids and elderly family members who do not have iPhone can take advantage of those same incredible features. StarHub’s best-in-class network is ideally positioned to support this groundbreaking Apple Watch feature.”
