SpaceX’s Starlink will provide internet to cars, boats, planes

SpaceX has applied to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for permission to deploy its Starlink satellite broadband service to moving vehicles. The company applied to receive a blanket licence for the operation of earth stations in motion (ESIMs) that will communicate with its StarLink satellite system. starlink internet
Examples of locations where an ESIM terminal may be deployed include the masts of ships or the tops of semi-trucks that are not generally accessible to the public as well as passenger cars or pleasure boats where the general public may have uncontrolled access to the eSIM terminal.

“No longer are users willing to forego connectivity while on the move, whether driving a truck across the country, moving a freighter from Europe to a U.S. port, or while on a domestic or international flight,” the filing reads.

Over 1,100 satellites have already launched

However, smaller passenger cars will have to wait for Starlink’s internet connection.

Not connecting Tesla Cars to Starlink, as our terminal is much too big. This is for aircraft, ships, large trucks and RVs,” Space X CEO, Elon Musk while responding to a tweet said.

Space X has launched over 1,100 satellites as of now, and FCC has already granted the company permission to roll out a million end-user terminals to transmit data from Space X’s constellation.

The company currently runs a beta program with the aim of serving rural parts of the US with little to no internet connectivity.

But the new filing suggests that Space X is looking to focus on mobile connectivity by targeting drivers, ship operators and air travelers in the US. Space X believes that these services will enhance the security of mobile platforms and allow operators and passengers to access services that enable increased productivity.

“Granting this application would serve the public interest by authorizing a new class of ground-based components for SpaceX’s satellite system that will expand the range of broadband capabilities available to moving vehicles throughout the United States and to moving vessels and aircraft worldwide,” the company said in the filing.

World’s most technologically advanced rockets and spacecraft starlink internet

SpaceX develops some of the world’s most technologically advanced rockets and spacecraft. The company’s Falcon 9 rocket is currently the only orbital-class rocket that can propel payload to space and return to perform a controlled vertical landing on autonomous drone ships at sea. SpaceX launched the first pair of NASA Astronauts to the International Space Station aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft on May 30.

The successful mission reestablished the United States as a space power with human spaceflight capabilities. NASA had not launched astronauts from American soil since 2011. SpaceX does not want to settle with ferrying astronauts to orbit, the company will take astronauts back to the moon and aims to establish a permanent, self-sustaining human settlement on Mars. starlink internet
