Samsung Expands eSIM Transfer Capabilities to Non-Galaxy Devices
Samsung’s eSIM transfer tool, which was originally only compatible with Galaxy devices, has been updated to work with other Android phones as well. This is a welcome development for eSIM users, as it makes it easier to transfer their eSIM profiles between different devices. Samsung eSIM Transfer
To use the eSIM transfer tool, you will need to have One UI 6.1 or later installed on your Samsung device and Android 14 or later installed on the non-Samsung device. You will also need to be using a carrier that supports eSIM transfers.
Here are the steps on how to transfer your eSIM profile: Samsung eSIM Transfer
- On your Samsung device, open the Settings app and go to Connections > Mobile networks > eSIM transfer.
- Select the eSIM profile you want to transfer.
- Tap Start Transfer.
- A QR code will be displayed on your Samsung device.
- On your non-Samsung device, open the Google Play Store and install the latest version of the Google Play Services app.
- Open the Google Play Services app and scan the QR code on your Samsung device.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the transfer.
Once the transfer is complete, your eSIM profile will be active on your non-Samsung device.
It is important to note that this feature is still under development, and there may be some compatibility issues with certain carriers and devices. However, it is a promising step towards a more seamless eSIM experience across all Android devices.
Google said last year that Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile’s parent company, would be the first carrier to support Android’s eSIM Transfer Tool. So, more carriers around the world may start supporting the eSIM Transfer Tool for Android smartphones. Samsung was using its method for eSIM transfer in One UI 5.1. However, the company now seems to be using Google’s eSIM transfer mechanism, which pops up a Google Play Services-powered menu on an Android smartphone nearby.
This is a major step towards the normalization of eSIM registration and transfer on Android devices. All Android phones that now come with Google’s eSIM Transfer Tool will support eSIM transfer between Android devices from any brand, but the dependability on the network carrier remains. It would be great if Apple and Google worked together to make eSIM transfers between iOS, iPadOS, and Android possible.
