Google Pay is a safe and secure service protected by an advanced security infrastructure, enabling Android users to make fast and simple payments online, in-store, and in-app.

Taking into account the growing need for digital payments, Revolut says that it has worked closely with Google Pay to offer a contactless payment experience to people in Hungary.

From today, Hungarian customers with Android phones will have the ability to set up Google Pay within the “Cards” section of the Revolut app. They can add their Revolut Mastercard or Visa card into their phone’s digital wallet with a single tap and start spending instantly, even before the physical card arrives in the post.

Revolut customers will be able to use Google Pay to pay online and contactless in stores. Google Pay doesn’t share customers’ actual card numbers with vendors in shops or online, so their information stays secure.

James Carpenter, product owner for card payments at Revolut said,

“Our 13 million global customers are fast moving away from cash in the majority of the markets we operate in, and this has accelerated since the start of the year, so launching Google Pay in Hungary is a very positive step forward in enabling our Hungarian customers to safely use their money in the way that they want to. Our ultimate goal is to build the world’s first truly global financial superapp, and giving our customers tools such as Google Pay in order to make payments quickly, conveniently, and securely is vital to achieving this.” google pay hungary

Check if your phone can make contactless payments

To make contactless payments with Google Pay, your phone must work with near-field communication (NFC).

If you set up Google Pay and added a card, but have trouble when you pay in stores, check these steps.

Step 1: Make sure your phone meets software standards

  1. Check if the software on your phone is Play Protect certified.
  2. If you modified your phone, make sure it meets security standards. Google Pay might not work in stores with phones that:
    • Run developer versions of Android.
    • Are rooted, run a custom ROM, or have modified factory software. Due to security risks, Google Pay doesn’t run on these phones.
    • Are untested and haven’t been approved by Google.
    • Have an unlocked bootloader.

To fix these issues, except for Play Protect certification and rooted phones, reset your phone to factory settings.

Step 2: Find out if your phone has NFC

  1. Open Settings Settings.
  2. In the “Search settings” bar, type “NFC.”
  3. Tap and turn on NFC.
    • If you can’t find NFC, your phone can’t make contactless payments.

Step 3: Make sure Google Pay is set as the default payment app

  1. Open Settings Settings.
  2. Tap Apps & Notifications and then Default apps.
    • Your Default apps might be under “Advanced.”
  3. Tap Tap & Pay.
  4. Set Google Pay as the default app.
