Moscow to launch single Wi-Fi space for entire city
Moscow plans to launch a single public Wi-Fi space, reports Tdaily.ru citing a post by Sergey Sobyanin, the Moscow city mayor, on social network VKontakte.
The municipality has already chosen the operator which will integrate all currently available public Wi-Fi networks, though it has not disclosed any names. The integration will enable users to access Wi-Fi across the city without repeated authorizations.
“First of all, we installed it in parks and student dormitories, then on the main streets. Now the capital’s Wi-Fi network is one of the largest in the world. More than 18 thousand access points, including in libraries and museums, ”said Sobyanin.
Moscow wi-fi
Public Wi-Fi services became available in Moscow in September 2013. Over 18,000 hotspots are currently present in the city.
Connecting to Wi-Fi hotspots in Moscow typically requires you to search for available networks on your device and select the desired Wi-Fi network. Many public places such as cafes, restaurants, hotels, and airports offer free Wi-Fi, and you can often obtain the Wi-Fi password from the establishment’s staff.
When connecting to a public Wi-Fi network, it is important to take some precautions to protect your privacy and security. Here are some tips:
- Avoid accessing sensitive information such as banking or personal accounts while using public Wi-Fi.
- Use a virtual private network (VPN) to encrypt your internet traffic and protect your data.
- Make sure your device’s software is up to date and has a current antivirus program installed.
- Avoid connecting to networks that are not password-protected or have generic names like “Free Wi-Fi.”
- Be wary of entering personal information such as passwords or credit card details while using public Wi-Fi.
Overall, connecting to public Wi-Fi hotspots can be convenient but may pose some risks. By following these tips, you can help to protect your privacy and security while using public Wi-Fi networks in Moscow or elsewhere.
