Google boasts the extreme simplicity of this method of payment since it is enough to unlock the phone for transactions of less than 30 euros (as on the CB), without launching the application or having to enter a password.

Nevertheless, not everyone can benefit from the day of the launch, since some logistical constraints reduce the possibilities. Here’s all you need to know about Google Pay.

Compatible smartphones google pay france

On the smartphone side, the restrictions are rather weak since they must meet only two criteria:

• run on Android 5.0 Lollipop or later
• be NFC compatible  for contactless payment

As you can see, all high-end smartphones are compatible, while a large selection of input and mid-range devices can also be used to pay with a simple gesture. The list would be too long to do here, but do not hesitate to consult our product sheets to check if a specific model is NFC compatible or not.

Finally, note that the Wear OS devices also display compatibility with Google Pay.

Compatible banks

For its launch, we could have expected Google strong partnerships with major French banking groups as had Apple at launch, or even Samsung, both of which displayed the signs of BPCE (Banque Populaire Caisse d’Epargne) on their announcement press release.

Unfortunately, Google’s list is a little less prestigious with much younger and more dynamic banking institutions. There are also neo-banks, but also banks online or a check cheer organization.

Here is the list of banks and services compatible with Google Pay:

• Boon
• Boursorama Bank
• Lydia
• N26
• Revolut
• Edenred

At present, only Mastercard cards are compatible with Boon and Revolut. Visa should be available “very soon”.
