The German state of Bavaria plans to reinforce research efforts in Artificial Intelligence by employing a total of 100 professors at universities. bavaria ai research
Fifty professors have already been awarded a chair for research in the AI field to support the research network at the AI center in Munich and the other locations in Wurzburg, Erlangen-Nuremberg and Ingolstadt. The 50 research projects focus on intelligent robotics, mobility, health and data science.

The British magazine Times Higher Education (THE) has completed the first study based on the frequency of citations of research papers from different universities – in other words, the reputation of researchers with their colleagues around the world. The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is ranked number six worldwide.

TUM is the only German university among the ten most influential institutions in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The top spots in the rankings are held by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Carnegie Mellon University, both in the USA, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, with which TUM maintains a close partnership. Half of the top ten positions are held by Asian universities. The only European representative apart from TUM is the University of Granada in Spain, which ranks fourth. bavaria ai research
The report also includes country rankings. This list is headed by Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong and the USA, followed by Italy, the Netherlands, Australia and Germany. The magazine prepared the studies using the Scopus database, which tracks peer-reviewed journal publications worldwide. Based on the sheer number of articles, China and the USA have a substantial lead over all other countries.

NEW MUNICH SCHOOL OF ROBOTICS AND MACHINE INTELLIGENCE

Artificial intelligence is a key research field at TUM, with work extending from fundamental research to applications in such fields as robotics, as well as the study of the social implications of AI. TUM is currently establishing the Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence, where scientists will engage in interdisciplinary research in these areas. Numerous spin-offs are creating market-ready applications based on research done at TUM. TUM has also entered into scientific partnerships with companies engaged in intensive R&D activities, most recently with Google.

The outstanding quality of research at TUM is regularly confirmed in other assessments, too. For example, the most recent issue of the Nature Index shows that TUM researchers lead the way among all German universities based on the number of articles published in the highly prestigious journals Nature and Science. bavaria ai research
