According to Apple’s regional Apple Pay web page, Apple Pay can be used in The Netherlands with several online and high-street retailers including Adidas, ALDI, Amac, ARKET, BCC, Burger King, Capi, cool blue, COS, Decathlon, Douglas, H&M, Jumbo, Lidl, McDonald’s, Starbucks, and others.

Apple Pay has been gradually expanding across Europe and the Middle East, launching in Poland, Norway, Kazakhstan, Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, Austria, and Iceland over the last year. Up until today, The Netherlands was one of the most populous countries in Europe that were still awaiting Apple Pay.

Apple Pay in the Netherlands

To use Apple Pay in the NetherIands, users must have a compatible device and add their supported debit or credit card to the Wallet app. Users can add multiple cards and choose a default payment method.

To make a payment using Apple Pay in stores, users simply hold their device near the contactless payment terminal and authenticate the payment using Touch ID, Face ID, or a passcode. Online and in-app purchases can be made by selecting Apple Pay as the payment method and authenticating the payment using the device’s biometric features or passcode.

Apple Pay offers secure payment transactions, as it uses device-specific security codes and transaction-specific dynamic security codes, rather than storing users’ card numbers on the device or sharing them with merchants. Additionally, users can remotely lock or erase their devices using the Find My app, providing an extra layer of security for their digital wallet.

Overall, Apple Pay is a convenient and secure way for users in the Netherlands to make digital payments, and its availability is expected to continue to grow in the coming years.
